Mobile Museum
Thoughts On A Mobile Version of the Route 66 Spirit of America Museum
As I reflect on the Route 66 Spirit of America Museum’s work over the last three years, expanding its ability to reach people has been one of my top priorities.
People who tour the museum really like what they see. The most unexpected and delightful example of this came in the form of a hand-made card i received in May of this year from a couple that visited the museum in May of 2025. One year after their visit, they decided to write to me to express how much they enjoyed being here! Here’s what they sent to me…
But not enough people tour the museum. That’s the sad truth. Despite being in Stroud (home to the extremely popular Rock Cafe restaurant, made even more famous after its owner’s association with the Disney / Pixar animated film “Cars” came to light), the museum’s reach has been quite small. And since I cannot go back in time and create different marketing strategies than the ones I used to date (most recently involving acquiring a very special 2015 50th Anniversary Ford Mustang GT, which when parked in front of the museum I hoped to attract more people… which did not happen), I am exploring options such as taking the museum on the road. The theory here is “If people aren’t coming to the museum, maybe I need to take the museum to people.”
Were I to purchase for the museum (or better yet have donated to the museum) an RV, I could take the museum’s message (and a virtual version of its displays plus a selection of its books) on the road. I can imagine church groups, local Lions and Rotary Clubs, and even Chambers of Commerce hosting visits by the Route 66 Spirit of America Museum to their cities. Stay turned for further developments. And if you have the ability to donate an RV (or want to help make that happen), please let me know!
